Examines the pros and cons of capital punishment by focusing on two cases, that of Dawn Romano Garvin, whose murderer, Steven Oken, was sentenced to death, but remains on death row in a lengthy appeal process, and that of Clarence Lee Brandley, who was mistakenly sentenced to death row and only won his freedom after a ten-year battle. Legal and constitutional experts provide analyses of the profiled cases, explain the legal terms associated with capital punishment, and examine the history and controversy surrounding the Eighth Amendment. Includes discussion of the role of DNA evidence in proving the innocence of some death row inmates.
