" ... Jacob J. Zorn kept a diary from the time of his enlistment in the Union Army in 1862 till his discharge in 1865. He was a Sergeant in Co. F, 142nd Infantry Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers, 1st Brigade, 3rd Division, 1st Corps, Army of the Potomac"--Foreword.

Jacob J. Zorn was born in 1838 in Berlin, Pennsylvania. He left there for the war in 1862 and returned in June 1865. He married Jenny D. Statler on Dec. 31, 1867 in Philadelphia. He had corresponded with her throughout the war.
