摘要:
The populations of larval Ambystoma tigrinum inhabiting the Llano Estacado of W. Texas are comprised of more females than males. Transformed individuals associated with aquatic situations are predominantly males. The shift from a 1:1 sex ratio is due, in part, to an earlier time of transformation for males. Since the egg complement of larvae is greater than that of transformed individuals, the retention of a large number of reproductively mature females in an aquatic habitat increases the reproductive potential of the population above that possible for the same number of transformed animals.
