Abstract:

This book features two retitled shorter works, What Color is Heaven? (published in 1942 as the rather dated Those Fighting Gringo Devils) and Shafter Range (1961, as Riding High). In Heaven, Rick Candleman is worried about his brothers, one of whom has joined a gang of border rustlers, the other being embroiled in a nasty war with an enemy of the Candlemans. When one brother is murdered, Rick must team up with the other to find the killer. In Range, Mike Shafter returns to the town of Azul after two decades to find that the death of a local magnate has sparked a vicious free-for-all for control of his assets, and Mikes familys land is smack dab in the middle of it.
