It's easier to engage students when the topic is fun and familiar, and what could be more fun and familiar than "The Simpsons"? The show has been on the air for over 20 years, so nearly every current student grew up with it. The book focuses primarily on the humanities and has in-depth chapters focused on composition, linguistics, literature, culture and society, and satire and postmodernism. The sample lesson plans and detailed episode list should help teachers quickly find something that will work with specific lessons. It's also well written and fun to read; I'm not a teacher, but the book was so interesting that I closely read more than half the book before skimming the rest.
A practical, useful, and engaging book for teachers.

Yea, this book is written like the audience is all teachers (I am studying to be one), but there's lots of really cool stuff in there explained through The Simpsons, which everybody's heard of, even if they're not a fan. Like for example, the chapter on linguistics is cool because it explains how words get born sometimes as a joke, like doh or "embiggen" from the title, but they sometimes eventually get in the Dictionary. I hear people say "meh" all the time (that means, so-so or "whatever") and I didn't know til I read this book that it's from The Simpsons. I like too how the authors talk about how The Simpsons can be in English classes to help teach about the literature. They approach it like, "If stuff is scary, like Shakespeare, you show them The Simpsons doing Shakespeare first, and if Bart can do it, maybe I can too."
And if you ever wanted to know what episodes have to do with what topics the whole series is in there. And lots of other articles and books, too, so you know if you want to buy the others or not.
I'm glad I have this book and I think it can help a lot of teachers and people who just want to know more about The Simpsons and how it's not Just A TV Show.
