In this story, a baby princess is given gifts of beauty, song, grace and other attributes, but because of her parents dismissal of the thirteenth fairy, she is also cursed to prick her finger on a needle and fall dead. The youngest fairy is unable to keep the curse from happening, but does soften the girl's fate, dooming the princess to sleep for one hundred years.
