Abstract:

Ellis Alves has a bad attitude and a rap sheet a mile long, but murder seems out of his league. When he is convicted of killing a wealthy co-ed, his lawyers hire Spenser to find out whether their client was framed. The investigation opens a window into the twisted world of the super-rich, and Spenser is soon convinced of his client's innocence. But powerful people don't want the truth to get out, and when a man with a .22 puts Spenser into a coma, the hope for justice might die along with the detective.
