Abstract:

Set in Switzerland, festivities prior to the wedding of the beautiful Amina to the farmer Elvino are interrupted by the arrival of Rodolfo, the Count. That night at the Inn, the Count discovers that Amina is a somnambulist when she sleepwalks into his chamber. Her beauty and innocence prompt him to depart for his chateau, but the situation becomes a means for the jealous Lisa to avenge herself on Amina. Despite the Count's testimony to Amina's innocence, Elvino remains unconvinced until he witnesses her sleepwalking for himself.
