Abstract:

Descriptive and critical accounts not only of Spanish history and literature but also of Spanish art and music are here made available, in the space of one volume, to all students and general readers with an interest in Spain. Since the work of the same title by E. Allison Peers first appeared in 1929, there has been a great increase of knowledge as well as many changes in critical values and taste over the whole Hispanic field. These developments, and the awareness of the relationships between the various arts themselves and between them and history, are reflected in these twelve chapters, each one contributed by a distinguished scholar in the field. - Jacket flap.
