Abstract:

This dataset example introduces researchers to the Spearman rank-order correlation coefficient, which is a non-parametric measure of association between two ordinal, interval or ratio level variables. The Spearman rank-order correlation coefficient measures whether there is a positive or negative monotonic relationship between two such variables. This example uses a subset of data from the 2012 Global Health Observatory data from the World Health Organization. It looks specifically at the correlation between a country's average life expectancy at birth and the country's per capita spending on health.
