Her poetry covers the Civil Rights struggle, Vietnam, the Women's Movement, and the decade of reflection that followed. The Film presents a rich mosaic of themes related to art, race, sex and humanity. It consists of performance footage, intercut with interview material, archival film footage and stills. The film, exceptionally rich in visual imagery, moves at a lively pace with the assistance of an original musical score - a highly inventive approach.
