Abstract:
Seeing is believing: Stephen Hawking presents some of the most astonishing scientific advances in cosmological thought: Ptolemy's theory of the motion of the planets, moon and sun; Newton's picture of the universe with everything governed by gravity; Einstein's revolutionized theory of physics; and Edwin Hubble's invention of the telescope that saw the expansion of the universe.
The Big bang: Where could the universe come from? Scientists have developed two theories: the Big Bang and the Steady State theories. The recent discoveries and scientific contributions of Georges Lemâitre, Fred Hoyle, Arno Penzias, and Robert Wilson appear to support the Big Bang.
