Resumen:
Today the artistic reputation of Ernest Shepard (1879-1976) largely rests on his work as the illustrator of Winnie-The-Pooh. Resumen:

Today the artistic reputation of Ernest Shepard (1879-1976) largely rests on his work as the illustrator of Winnie-The-Pooh. This is very unfortunate, as during his long life, he was an extremely versatile artist, painting many portraits and landscapes in addition to his illustrations and cartoons. He was a student at the Royal Academy Schools after which he started work as a successful professional artist. Throughout the Great War he was never without pencil and paper and recorded its events in cartoons, maps and sketches. After the war he returned to his chosen path, became a regular contributor to Punch and began his career as a book illustrator. By the time of his death, in 1976, he was recognized as one of the foremost illustrators of children's books this century. During the Second World War he not only commanded a company of the Home Guard at Guildford while, at the same time, he continued to draw cartoons and the weekly Charivari headings for Punch. At the request of his children Shepard began to record his life story in words as well as pictures, which resulted in two volumes of autobiography. After 1945 he illustrated over twenty books. For two of these he had also written the text: Betsy & Joe and Ben and Brock. This book, the source material for which is in the Shepard Archive, contains one hundred and fifty illustrations. Some of these have never been published before. -- Jacket.
