Abstract:

Laura Ingersoll was born in 1775 at Great Barrington, Massachusetts, the daughter of Thomas Ingersoll (1749-1812), a captain in the Revolutionary War, and Elizabeth Dewey Ingersoll (1758-1784). The family immigrated to Canada ca. 1795. She married James Secord (1773-1841), son of James Secord (1732-1784), an American Loyalist, in Ontario, probably soon after her arrival there. They had eight children. The family lived at Queenston, Ontario, and twice during the War of 1812, she helped the British forces, once saving the life of her husband. She died at Chippewa, Ontario, in 1868.
