Abstract:

Dramatized sequences on classroom management that combine Wavelength's use of humor with Dr. Robert Shockley's ideas on effective classroom practices. Set in middle school classrooms. Part 1 recognizes attributes of successful teachers by identifying positive and negative characteristics of teacher behavior and by understanding the developmental characteristics of early adolescent students. Part 2 shows how to prevent student misbehavior by setting student rights and responsibilities with the students themselves and by being in the right place at the right time. Part 3 shows how to develop creative ways to react to discipline problems, how to defuse potential power play situations before they begin, how to deal with students who disrupt classroom activities, and how to get students with a fear of failure to participate in the classroom.
