In this article, teen pregnancy, as it is presented in the media, is analyzed. The author presents the idea that pregnancy amongst teen celebrities is often glorified and as a result those young teens that idolize these celebrities are more prone to succumbing to pregnancy themselves. Since its recent incline, as of 2006, the question of whether or not teen pregnancy rates will ever decline again is also addressed. It is believed that movies, tabloids, news and television in general play a large part in the increase in teen pregnancy. Recent movies such as “Juno” and “Knocked up”, and other popular television shows such as Degrassi may have some influence on the normalization of teen pregnancy. This article provides some statistical analysis for the United States as well as Canada.

This article had a lot of useful relevant information and arguments however, presented almost too much information for one sitting. I liked how they used actual images in the media to drive home their claim that the media has a prominent effect on teen pregnancy rates. Some of the information I found to be irrelevant for my specific research was having all the statistics for multiple areas of the world such as Canada and the UK. Overall, however, the information they presented and they style in which they did so was very helpful and organized. There was a good train of thought and it was very chronological.
