A compelling read, despite some annoyances   (2009-07-10)

Three and a half stars, actually--if the characters had figured out what was going on as soon as I did, I might have given the book 4 stars.  (That would have dramatically shortened the novel, though.)  It was still a compelling, fast read, despite my impatience.

One thing that...

Great book, wish the author would have explained a little more at the end. I felt there was not complete closure.

This book is a well written book about a boy, Nobody Owens, whose parents are killed when he was a toddler and he ends up being raised in a cemetery by the people buried there.   It is full of excitement and adventure that will keep you reading.  The book does...

I'm currently reading this book in my Child Development Class in High School and it has been very interesting for the most part. I never knew that he was tortured by his mom so much and we are only in the fourth chapter of the book, so there's definitely more to come!!! Whenever I think about that book,...

I would recommend this to my friends because it is a funny story about this brother and sister who fight all the time. It is as good as her (Judy Blume's) other books for 3rd & 4th graders.

Student Abby is behind in her academics for 6th grade and either improves and does an extra assignment or fails. A wonderful correspondence develops between her and a pen pal. Using letters and not email seems a bit out of date.

This is the story of Addie who lives with a mother who exhibits strange behavior when she would rather be with her father and half-sisters.  The book provides insight into how unfortunate a child can be and how it is out of their control sometimes, but somehow young people...

I thought this was an excellent and clever work of fiction, but I will defer to other reviewers to examine its literary merits. My dissatisfaction is that people take Brown's research too seriously. I find it much more speculatively clever than factually compelling. In this way, it reminds me of [[WikiPedia:Immanuel_Velikovsky]]'s...

This book will appeal to girls who like historical fiction like the Little House books, Julie of the Wolves, or Island of the Blue Dolphins. Kirby Lawson, the author, has developed characters that I really cared about and could feel for. Hattie could not survive without the help and support of her...
