Abstract:

(Critical) This module, part of a series on the neurologically disabled patient. Reviews patient outcomes of acute care nursing, namely intact skin, normal range of joint motion, maintenance of adequate weight, skin turgor, and output, prevention of fecal impaction, and adequate sleep and rest. There are excellent demonstrations of body positioning, range of motion exercises, and patient feeding techniques. Two nurse-patient interactions illustrate effective approaches to managing hostile and aggressive patient behavior. An excellent segment describes the criteria for transfer of a patient to a rehabilitation setting, and a nurse-patient-wife conference regarding the preparation for such a transfer. This clear, well designed program is highly recommended for use.
