"This report represents the work of the Blue Ribbon Task Force on Sustainable Digital Preservation and Access, a 17- member group of experts from economics, computer science, libraries, archives, museums, and related fields with funding and support from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF Award No. OCI 737721), the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the U.S. Library of Congress, the U.K. Joint Information Systems Committee JISC), the Electronic Records Archives Program of the National Archives and Records Administration, and the Council on Library and Information Resources. The report is authored by Brian Lavoie, Lorraine Eakin, Amy Friedlander, Francine Berman, Paul Courant, Clifford Lynch, and Daniel Rubinfeld with input, comments and consultation provided by all of the members of the Task Force. The Communications Group at the San Diego Supercomputer Center produced the document. Lorraine Eakin, an intern at the Council on Library and Information Resources, provided substantial research support for this report"--P i.

Parsing these questions, and understanding how we might address them, led to the conceptualization and ultimate organization of the Blue Ribbon Task Force on Sustainable Digital Preservation and Access. This Interim Report represents the work of this Task Force in its first year, and sets forth the conceptual framework that will guide its efforts in the second and final year. The synthesis of the Task Force's investigations will be the focus of its Final Report in 2009, which will provide an economic framework, and practical recommendations and strategies for sustainable digital preservation and access -- [From preface].
