"Sylva Sylvarum" was first published in 1626 and included "The New Atlantis"; the 1651 and subsequent editions contain significant additional titles.
"Sylva Sylvarum" was intended as part of Part 3 of Bacon's proposed, but never completed work, "Instauratio magna."
Printer's name from Wing CD-ROM; re-issued in the same year (Wing B328), with a cancel title page with imprint: "Printed for William Lee and are to be sold by Thomas Williams ... and William Place."

This edition includes "New Atlantis"and the "History natural and experimental of life and death"; both with separate title pages; "History" has the imprint: "Printed for William Lee and Humprhey Moseley, 1658."
The "History natural and experimental of life and death" is a translation of "Historia vitae et mortis."
Numerous pagination errors; the "New Atlantis" and "History" have separate pagination sequences.

There were at least 3 booksellers by the name of William Lee or "Ley" at work in London at this time. One of these worked at the Turk's Head ca. 1627-1675. Cf. Plomer, H.R.A dict. of the booksellers and printers ... in England, Scotland and Ireland from 1641 to 1667, 1907.
