Abstract:

Collection is comprised of correspondence; writings; records; research material; literary productions; photographs; and audio/visual material. Correspondence reflects his personal and professional associations and activities, with a significant portion relating to research for Williams' book, HUEY LONG. Family letters include the correspondence of his wife, Estelle. Writings contain articles, speeches, lectures and reviews written primarily by Williams, but also include the work of other writers.

Research materials, which comprise a large portion of this collection, contain notes, note cards, legal documents, and clippings pertaining to the Civil War, major Civil War figures, U. S. history, military history, and Louisiana governor and senator, Huey P. Long. Included are Civil War correspondence and diaries (most are transcripts or copies), speeches of Huey P. Long, and oral history interviews relating to Long. Audio cassette tapes are available for speeches and some interviews.

Records reflect Williams' participation in professional organizations and associations. Literary productions contain handwritten manuscripts as well as typescript, page proofs, galley proofs, and sample pages with notations of his literary works. Programs, publications, and maps comprise printed materials reflecting Williams' research and professional activities. Photographs include cartes de visite, photographs of the Huey Long era, personal photographs, and images used for book illustrations.

Fifteen scrapbooks document publicity and reviews associated with T. Harry Williams' books, speaking engagements, travels, awards, and also include congratulatory letters. Audio/visual materials contain a 16mm film of Williams and reel to reel master tapes (restricted) of audio cassette tapes in the collection.
