Abstract:

"The people hail from the sacred mountains of Tongariro National Park to Lake Taupo and surrounding district ... After climbing a great hill our ancestors found there were many more hills to climb and there were roads they had to walk to find peace and eternity in the land of hope. They dreamt about mountains and the great wildernesses, the lakes, rivers and streams. They conquered the fear to let freedom reign and kept climbing the hills and walking the roads in search of hope in the realm of paradise. Though falling at times, their greatest purpose in life was overcoming every time and rising. Never and never again would they let this beautiful land, keep experiencing the oppression by another? The hard climb and walk to freedom has been a long journey. This book about the Te Heuheu Whanau is an exclusive insight which follows the journey of times past to their existence today. It is a collection of various sources of writing and images, through to personal writing by the author. From the biographies of the paramount chiefs and family members, to the tribal land, mountains, lakes, rivers and streams, it gives an insight into their heritage, prestige and loyalty. Many hard fought battles were won and lost. The journey of times past describes the great sacrifices, dedication and commitment to succeed. The journey carries on for generations to come."--Te Heuheu.com.
