Abstract:

A pioneer in sea exploration, David Gallo was one of the first oceanographers to use a combination of submarines and robots to map the deep. He is also an enthusiastic ambassador between the ocean world and those of us on dry land. In a TEDTalk brimming with vibrant video captured by submarines, Gallo takes viewers to some of Earth's most violent, toxic, and beautiful habitats - the valleys and volcanic ridges of the oceans' depths, where life is bizarre, resilient, and shockingly abundant.
