Abstract:

MIT researcher and computational architect Skylar Tibbits works on self-assembly - the idea that instead of building something, we can create materials that build themselves. In this TEDTalk, Tibbits explains three in-the-lab projects that hint at what a self-assembling future might look like. The MacroBot and the DeciBot are large-scale reconfigurable robots that work by directly embedding digital logic gates, and Biased Chains is a passive self-assembly system that can program three-dimensional shapes.
