Abstract:

In the 1980s, scientists at CERN asked themselves how massive, complex, and collaborative projects - like the fledgling LHC - could be orchestrated and tracked. Tim Berners-Lee, a contractor at the time, answered by inventing the World Wide Web. He is currently the director of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), which maintains standards for the Web and continues to refine its design, as well as the senior researcher at MIT's Computer Science and AI Lab. In this interesting TEDTalk, he discusses his latest project to link open data that could do for numbers what the Web did for words, pictures, and video.
