Abstract:

The aircraft engaging system was installed on a test runway. Engagement tests were conducted with B-47B, F-84G and F -100A aircraft. Operational engagements were successfully completed on a break-away hook on the F-84G and F-100A, and on a standard arresting hook on the B-47B. Engagements were made at velocities of 11 to 165 knots. Successful emergency engagements were made on the main wheel struts at velocities of 14 to 143 knots. The equipment and procedures for conducting these tests are described.
