摘要:

Over 1,900 specimens of 193 species of birds from southern Louisiana were examined for nasal mites. This represented approximately 75% of the common to fairly common species in the state. Mites of the families Dermanyssidae (Rhinonyssinae), Epidermoptidae (Turbinoptinae), Ereynetidae (Speleognathinae), and Cytoditidae were recovered from 312 hosts, representing approximately 16% incidence of infection. Ninety-three of 193 or about 48% of the species examined were found infected with one or more species of mites. Fifty-one species of Rhinonyssinae, 7 species of Turbinoptinae, 13 species of Speleognathinae, and 2 species of Cytoditidae were collected. The incidence, host-parasite relationships, affinities, and other considerations concerning these endoparasitic mites are discussed. A list of species of mites and the hosts examined from Louisiana is provided.
