Abstract:

"There is increasing recognition of mental illness in the community. Many of these problems can be managed in the community and many do not need to be treated with drugs. Even when drugs are required non-drug treatment plays an important role in managing the patient. When drug treatment is indicated there are usually several options to choose from. This is where prescribing guidelines can help the clinician. This is the sixth edition of "Therapeutic guidelines: psychotropic'. An expert group, drawn from psychiatry, general practice, pharmacy and nursing has revised the content of the previous edition. The group has reviewed the evidence that has emerged in the intervening five years and has considered the new drugs that have been approved."--Preface, p. xxv.
