Mercure is a very grim, realistic type of writer. His stories make you THINK, but they will not necessarily make you happy.
Five stars, regardless.......

Where to start
This author has written several blood-curdling crime/espionage/murder/mayhem thrillers which have won some high praise (Night of the Dragon and Temptation Eyes - two very interesting novellas - come to mind).
This is, of course, a collection of short fiction. As is often with Angelo Victor Mercure's work, many of these short stories are set in Southeast Asia, a locale of which the author seems quite familiar.
My favorite tale within these pages would have to be the title story. It is an account of a Vietnam War era GI "gone native", quite shocking, quite brutally honest. No one can accuse Mercure of pulling punches, that's for sure.
Another of my favorites is "Baby", a story about middle-aged love gone awry, twisted, tangled, strange, and exceedingly sad.
You will have your own favorites.
This volume is very highly recommended.
