Paul Robeson, tribute to an artist is a deeply compassionate work of remembrance for a man who had been all but erased from the history books. This film looks at the career of the twenties and thirties movie star and wondrous baritone, Paul Robeson, cinema's first African-American leading man. The love goddesses details cinema's female sex symbols, featuring clips from famous film stars such as Marlene Dietrich, Lillian Gish, Clara Bow, Greta Garbo, Jean Harlow, Bette Davis, Carol Lombard, Ginger Rogers, Myrna Loy, Mae West, Barbara Stanwyck, Shirley Temple, Lana Turner, Betty Grable, Dorothy Lamour, Rita Hayworth, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, Claudette Colbert and others. The film examines the shifting cultural mores that are constantly redefining what we consider alluring as well as what we are allowed to see. The great chase is a rollicking compedium of the greatest hits of silent-cinema chase sequences.
