Abstract:

Title page reads: "Log of the Proceedings of His Majesty's Ship Tigris, Robert Henderson Esq Captain Kept by John Straihan Midshipman." Begins October 15th at Algeciras, Spain, and ends March 29th at Cork, Ireland. Entries for certain periods, presumably when the writer was on watch, are kept by the hour and include information on course, latitude and longitude, wind direction, and bearings and distance from stated points, such as Cape Finisterre; reference is also made to the convoy of which this ship was a part. Entries made while the writer was not on watch deal mainly with daily activities on shipboard and refer as well to disciplinary actions, mainly lashings for drunkenness.
