Abstract:

"It was the trial that captivated observers on both sides of the Atlantic. Media titan Conrad Black, by turns respected and reviled for decades in Canada and around the world, faced off with U.S. prosecutors on charges of criminal fraud stemming from his activities with Hollinger International. Using analysis, insights, and personal anecdotes, veteran attorney and journalist Steven Skurka brings the trial to life and shows how it was "tilted" from the outset by an American justice system that stacks the odds against the defendant, and a prosecution that played the "class card" in an attempt to demonize Black for his wealth and excesses. He also shows how Black attempted to tilt the trial in his own favour by using his wealth to mount a powerful defence."--BOOK JACKET.
