I loved this book, as a teenager and perhaps even more now that I'm in my fifties. I've always harbored a certain disappointment that Ms. Lee never wrote another. But I think I can understand why.
That said, as much as I love this book, it is one of the few really wonderful books that might actually be a case where the movie was better than the book. Hard to imagine, but true, IMO. Was it just Gregory Peck that made it so good? No, I don't think so. I think it was the story, combined with great acting from all, Mr. Peck's ability to not insist on being the 'star of the show' and allowing the supporting cast to have their moments. and the music. How I love that music.
