Abstract:

Matters concerning engineering technology and management, product improvement, new product development and commercialization should be addressed through the systematic application of key engineering tools. This paper is a valuable resource and ready reference based on validated engineering experience. Its contents are intended to be a procedural "expert system'' on paper, written for engineers who want to gain knowledge of proven practices and methods to more effectively operate and manage engineering projects. Through diligent use of these tools, engineering will demonstrate vision and leadership to assure quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction.

The L. Ray Buckendale Lectures, inaugurated in 1954, commemorate the contributions of the 1946 SAE President as developer of the latent abilities of young engineers and as an authority in the theory and practice of gearing, particularly as applied to automotive vehicles.
