Abstract:

The papers of Tracy D. Mygatt and Frances Witherspoon include some family papers (including the diary of Tracy Mygatt's mother, Minnie Clapp Mygatt), personal correspondence of both women with their families and friends, correspondence with organizations in which they were active, a small amount of correspondence with each other, and a typescript of their joint memoir, The Reminiscences of Frances Witherspoon and Tracy D. Mygatt. Published and unpublished writings and reviews of their books and plays make up about half the collection. Photographs, scrapbooks, clippings, and a small amount of reference material are also in the collection. Correspondents include Walter Russell Bowie, Lucy P. Carner, Margaret Casanova, Barbara Deming, John Haynes Holmes, Elizabeth Holtzman, Jessie Wallace Hughan, Alfred E. Kuenzli, Frances Layer, Georgia Lloyd, A.J. Muste, and Helen Topping. Organizations about which information can be found are the Campaign for World Government, New York Bureau of Legal Advice, War Resisters League, and the Women's Peace Union.
