Abstract:

In a mock trial, the title character of Shakespeare's "Hamlet" is tried for the murder of the king's attendant, Polonius. The purpose of the trial is to determine Hamlet's mental state at the time of the murder. Supreme Court Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy presides over the trial, which is preceded by a juror conference. At the conclusion of the proceeding, Justice Kennedy discusses trial strategy with the attorneys and takes questions from the audience.
