This book which originally appeared as a serial publication in La Jornada in 2005 is an entertaining book with more serious undertones. I learned much about current Mexican politics and the recent path while reading this story written by one of the most inventive authors around in conjunction with one of the most inventive social reformers around. Subcommandante Marcos almost outdoes Taibo in terms of twisting reality and comic characters. Taibo's portion is more straight noire mystery in the vein of his other Hector Belascoran Shayne novels. My only disappointment was that the two stories weren't as intertwined as I had hoped. Otherwise this is an engrossing read that entertains while discussing the dark side of Mexican politics.
