Abstract:

For a masterless samurai, the journey to enlightenment is fraught with perils, some clearly visible, others barely seen in dim corners. As Miyamoto Usagi travels the countryside of 16th Century Japan, he becomes entangled in a series of events laced with dark, deadly secrets: an encounter with a young samurai who follows in - and is followed by - the footsteps of his father's warrior heritage; a village plagued by a supernatural killer heralded by a haunting melody; the recounting of a classic Japanese folk tale; two baffling murders involving the master detective, Inspector Ishida; a draconian conspiracy to manipulate the succession to a lord's throne. Memory, mystery, and treachery intermingle to form Grey shadows.
