Abstract:

"In 1893, Pennsylvania's first state park was created when the Governor of Pennsylvania signed into law an act which stated that certain grounds should be 'preserved and maintained, forever, as a public place or park by the name of Valley Forge.' In a ceremony held on July 4, 1976, those grounds were authorized to become part of the National Park System. Today, Valley Forge National Historical Park serves as a memorial to those who suffered and lost their lives during the encampment. It also preserves the site where new Congressional reforms supporting the army were proposed and agreed upon, where a superior training system was introduced, and where a powerful ally's entry into the war was announced and celebrated"--Page 9.
