Collection consists of research files (1925-1988) of author and philosopher, Victor Lowe.

Included are correspondence, lecture notes, student notes, reprints, a few photgraphs, and research material for Lowe's many writings about Alfred North Whitehead.

The bulk of the collection consists of Lowe's correspondence and research material from England (particularly Cambridge University), and America which he gathered for the published biography of Whitehead. Correspondents include Whitehead's colleagues, former students, and distinguished British and American philosophers. Lowe's personal life is represented by a small amount of letters, some dealing with the death of his first wife, Victoria Lincoln. A few lecture notes from classes taught at Hopkins are included. The Hopkins material includes correspondence relating to a philosophical debate between Lowe and Hopkins professor, Arthur Lovejoy, and Sidney Hook of New York University, over the subject of academic freedom in American universities, 1951-1952.  Per saperne di più…
