Guido, en encantador pero torpe mozo de restaurante, dotado de colorida imaginación y de un sentido del humor irresistible, se gana el amor de la mujer que ama y crea una hermosa vida para su joven familia. La invasión Nazi surge amenazante por lo que Guido deberá poner en práctica sus dotes histriónicas para salvar a su esposa e hijo de un destino terrible.
