The Virtual Poetry Project is a journal that showcases the ways contemporary poetry overcomes the limitations of the written text taking advantage of the possibilities that technology opens for the poetic expression. New media has open new possibilities for poetry to become a more appealing, performative and engaging aesthetic artifact, calling for the participation of a reader that has also become a viewer or a listener. As Brazilian poet Haroldo de Campos has pointed out, technology and media changes affected poetic expression through history. His own practice as a concretista poet emphasized the visual, plastic aspect of the written word. Today, with the appearance of several forms of digital art, poetry has been taken to new expressive dimensions. This journal connects artists and scholars around the world through web 2.0 technologies, building a web of resources and a network of people interested in this experimental poetry.
