Abstract:

"The Visual Information Access (VIA) system is a union catalog of visual resources at Harvard and Radcliffe. It includes information about slides, photographs, objects and artifacts in the university's libraries, museums and archives. This system represents the first phase of an ongoing effort and additional information will be added on a regular basis. The first repositories to contribute data about their visual collections to VIA are the Fine Arts Library, Visual Collections; the Frances Loeb Library, Graduate School of Design, Visual Resources; the Harvard University Art Museums; the Peabody Museum; and the Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America. To date only portions of each repository's holdings are described in the online catalog. Where available, thumbnail images are linked to the catalog records. Regular updates are planned and more repositories will be represented"--The HOLLIS Plus information screen.
