Abstract:

The papers document the history and culture of the Blackfoot Indians and record Walter McClintock's experience as a lecturer. Correspondence contains letters to and from McClintock and his family about his early experiences with the Blackfoot Indians, his visit to the German court and Berlin, and his lectures and research. There are also letters from Indian friends describing problems and letters from others.

The papers also contain copies of his lectures, a transcript of a diary of his 1895 trip West, notes on his Western field trips, material on his books, The Old North Trail and Old Indian Trails, and material on the opera, Poia. Further information on McClintock's books, lectures, opera, and photographs can be found in Series IV.
