Abstract:
The author critically examines the Washington consensus on national security, which has remained unchanged for the last half century, and explains why challenging it is an urgent priority. He examines the preconceptions, biases, and habits underlying our pervasive faith in military might and challenges the usefulness of our militarism, which, he argues, has become increasingly unaffordable and dangerous.
