Abstract:

General description of the collection: The Wesley S. Kidd, Sr. photograph collection includes photographs from Kidd's entire career in he Army Medical Corps from 1929 to 1956. He began as an enlisted man and photos show him at Carlisle barracks with the 1st Medical Regiment between 1933 and 1939. There are also photos from Indiantown Gap, PA in 1937 and the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg in 1938. These show the soldiers and facilities which were there to assist the veterans. There are several photos from the World War II era, including the 91st Medical Gas Treatment Battalion in France. A series of photos show actor Peter Lorre visiting hospitalized soldiers in Europe around 1945. After the war, Kidd was involved in the U.S.-Canada joint cold weather equipment tests, and some excellent images capture this subject nicely. He also took photos of his stay and travels in and around Colorado about 1950. The vast majority of this collection, however, deals with the 4th Field Hospital and the Korean War, circa 1951. Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Kidd retired from Carlisle Barracks approximately 1956 after serving in the hospital there.
