How often do parents experience the birth and death of their child? Parents who outlive their children know the answer and the experience.
How often do parents experience the death of their child at the child's birth, or even before he/she is 'born'? It happens more often than we think. The parents go through a host of emotions, which is part of grief work. The grief never completely goes away, but it becomes handle-able over time, even though there are moments throughout the parents' lives this 'under-control' grief suddenly wakes up violently and with a vengeance. The parent feels like a victim, totally helpless.
The book offers help not only for parents who must help themselves and each other, but also for the grandparents, siblings, and the extended family in general. But in grief work, no two people feel the same experience. Each individual has to do his/her own work, and with others who are grieving.
Death, whether it is through miscarriage, still birth, 'natural' death, or 'accidental' death, is irreversible. Each person affected by the death must grieve and cope in one's own way.
