Abstract:

Valentine is a young American photojournalist in Kosovo, where she and her two colleagues are covering the war. All three are shot in a nightmarish ambush. Only after she wakes up in a Belgrade hospital does Val learn that Tony, her lover, is dead. At his funeral she finds out that he was married. In the wake of these traumatic events, Val goes home to New York City where she finds work as a photographer of celebrities. Still, her new position, and even a new admirer, can't ease her sense of searching for something, a sense that will lead her to retrace paths she thought were left behind.
