Dewey likes math, and Physics, she builds stuff and knows how machines work. Suze is the artist, creative and sensitive. They are brothers. They decide that they like the term brothers because neither of them enjoys the girlyness that comes with "sisters". Besides, they're not really related, Dewey moved in with Suze's family when she was 4 years old. Her father died in an accident and her mother left when she was an infant. The girls live in Alamagordo, New Mexico, just outside the White Sands Missle range. Their parents worked on the atomic bomb project in Los Alamos, and now Dad is working on the missle program. Life gets complicated as jealousy arises between the two best friends. Each makes a new friend and their worlds expands. Then one day a woman on a motorcycle rides up to their house and introduces herself as Dewey's mother. Dewey must decide how to deal with this new person in her life, and just where this could take her. A good story of friendship, problem solving and getting to know their own minds. A look into life in the late 1940's.
