This book gives students a simply written but thorough account of astronaut Neil Armstrong's life from the time in his childhood when he developed a fascination for airplanes and flying, through his astronaut years and moon walk, and into his quiet retirement on an Ohio farm. There are several additional inserts that enrich the text, such as "The first airplane", plus sketches of astronauts and spaceships. At the end are parallel timelines of Armstrong's life and other historical events of the time. There was a discrepancy there: the date of Armstrong's marriage to his first wife is dated differently in the text than on the timeline. This is an excellent book for middle grades, and would work well for reluctant readers.
